Design Process

our design process Design Process

Here at Second Nature, we offer a customized landscape design and consultation service. This service is aimed at providing our customers with a design that is suited to their lifestyle. Just as each individual customer has different lifestyles, each landscape design must be different in order to meet those needs. We are able to provide complete property master plans, as well as smaller, more specific designs (i.e. deck, frontyard, etc).

Our Staff

Our design staff is comprised of degreed, experienced landscape professionals. They possess the skills to create unique and complete designs. All of our designs are the result of a very involved process that incorporates not only your ideas and needs, but also site conditions and our experience.

Our Process

The design process begins with the initial design meeting. This is a time for the designer to share more with the customer regarding our process, our experience, our services, etc. This is also a time for you to explain exactly what is involved with your project.

Once you have decided to retain Second Nature as your landscape design firm, the designer will take any necessary on-site measurements and analysis. The designer will then take this information and begin the conceptual stage of the design process.

During the conceptual stage you would meet with the designer to review sketches, concepts, etc. The number of these 'progresss meetings' is determined by the size and scope of the design. When the conceptual design has reached a satisfactory point, the final design drawings are produced and presented to you.

Our Fees

We charge a rate of $80/per hour for the design process. This includes consultation, onsite analysis, measurements, conceptual sketches and final drawings. Each design agreement is based on a signed contract that specifies a maximum (or cap) in total cost and hours. Total design costs can vary greatly depending on each project, but the average landscape design falls within the range of $400-$1400. Designers will invoice for their time as the design progresses. Final drawings will be released to the customer only when the design fees have been paid in full.
