"The shortest distance between point A and point B is a straight line."  But a straight line is not always the most interesting path to take.  Walkways lead us, guide us, woo us and invite us.  They ask us to venture on and discover what awaits on the other end.  They accomplish this by twisting and curving in and among a stand of trees, along a carpet of green lawn, beside bursts of perennial color.  Sometimes you see what waits at the other end, sometimes it's a mystery.  Or perhaps the materials you walk on along the way communicate their own piece of the journey, making statements of grandeur through pattern stone or timid phrases by means of stepping stones.  Whatever the experience, walkways facilitate our movement and we …..
